Why Can't I Get Both Sets of Speakers to Work?

Just go myself a new 22" LCD monitor with twin speakers installed inside. I also have a set of Creative 1w stand alone speakers that were working fine.

My sound output is from an on board sound card within my motherboard (Gigabyte EP35C DS3R) which has 4 audio outputs.

OK - so I plugged the LCD screen audio lead into one of the audio outputs and the Creative speakers' audio lead into one of the other audio outputs

But all I get is sound out of the LCD monitor speakers & nothing out of the previously fine Creative speakers - anyone have any ideas / suggestions pls
