no sound device

I reformatted my computer recently, Dell Inspiron 1501, windows xp with sigmatel audio and am not able to get music to play through media player. I went into device manager and there is no yellow or red exclaimation point any ideas? thanks for any ideas. also getting a mssg about no mixer, if it helps

i reload the disk and went to dell and tried to update and was told i was running a newer version of sygmatel

yes i ran msconfig opened win.ini and opened annie the video and audio device values were 0 is this supposed to be 1? and how can i change it?

i figured it out, under services the windows audio service was stopped
