[SOLVED] Uh, I now have ZERO sound
Be gentle with me -- I'm being as detailed as I can be for a PC newbie! I recently moved my computer to our new location (packed carefully, treated gingerly, so it's not a damage issue) and now my speakers do not work. I'm using XP Professional, Service pack 2, Build 2600, on a four-year-old Gateway. I've tried all the usual troubleshooting, such as checking to see if it's the speakers themselves (it isn't -- they work like a charm on my neighbor's PC), and ensured all the mute boxes are unchecked, and went to the Device Manager to verify the properties on each of the "sound, video, and audio game controller" items. These are as follows:
* audio codecs * CM187381C3DXPCI Audio Devices * Legacy Audio Devices * Legacy Video Capture Devices * Standard Game Port * Video Codecs I checked to see if any of these needed driver updates -- all are running the latest version. I went to the Control Panel and clicked on Audio and Sound -- and all the above are working properly. All volume bars are way up and none of the mute boxes are checked. I even did a system restore. NADA! I'm at the end of my rope -- and really really need my speakers to work! Patrick |
