Weird Popping / Screeching Sounds frm Speakers

Hey guys, now i got a serious problem with my pc sound. Ever since i bought a new comp, i got problems every now and then. Okay, first i am experiencing popping sounds from my speakers whenever i play anything on any other media players other than WMP. Sounds weird? Yea i thought so. Unless the video or mp3 is played on WMP, popping or screeching sounds will be heard throughout the playtime. Actually, this problem has been around for a month, just that i did not bring it up here as felt it was not such a major disturbance until now. Please help! I cannot listen to anything on youtube or soccernet without having to tolerate the popping sounds! Thanks in advance! I will reply asap on any inputs by you guys!

My specs:

Creative Audigy 2 ZS and Megaworks 2.0. Old stuffs but still good enough.

Re: Weird Popping / Screeching Sounds frm Speakers

Aha, the infamous and well documented Creative Audigy problem.

It has to do with PCI Latency Timers and the clash between Video Cards and Creative Sound Cards (even their XFi).

Suggest you read the full Wikipedia article, PCI Latency Timers is addressed in the Auto Configuration section. Make sure you understand what's going on. Especially that Latency is set in multiples of 8.

As for the PCI Latency Tool, get it on Softpedia

The problem is video cards hogging the PCI bus and this interferes with the sound card. The fix is to ensure your Audigy Latency is only 8 below the video. Example; video Latency = 56, Audigy Latency should be 48. This fixed my Audigy problem.

One waring about the PCI Latency Tool, do NOT move nor change the [Start] menu, Programs, folder it is installed in.

Read the instructions carefully. You have to set, set on reboot, AND save.

Re: Weird Popping / Screeching Sounds frm Speakers

Hi tecknomage,

But how do i know my video latency then? It is not reflected in the PCI Latency tool. Besides, the Wikipedia article reads that PCIE is not affected by this fault? Pls advise. Thanks!
