no sound on my xp after downgrading from vista

everytime i try to play music on media player it says this

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

yet when my computer had vista on it it was fine i only put xp last nite and have no idea wats wrong vista came on the pc but i like xp more so i cant get vista back and would like to fix my sound up any help would be thankd

If its a boxstore pc, ie, dell, hp, etc go to there website and download
all drivers for that pc. Dont get just the sound drivers, but you need
chipset drivers as well, and make sure to get the xp drivers, not vista,
and hope there are xp drivers..Probably available...

thanks i tried tht but there is no drivers i have tried everything it is a dell but it has no xp drivers on its site fot it if there is any other ideas u know of please help

Find out what motherboard is in that thing. Model number, probably
in your paperwork, specifications. Then go directly to the maker of
the board, get drivers from there if available. The problem with
switching Operating systems is the chance that there may not be
any drivers written for that OS. I would expect that problem if you
switched from win98, but not xp, but I could be wrong....I hate vista,
