hei there,
im in a little of a pickle, my sound card burned out and isnt working anymore, now I want to replace it with a cheaper sound card as long as it will work. I found a cheap card on StarTech.com 5.1 Channel PCI Sound Card, If annyone can tell me that this sound card will work for my PC - model is Windows XP (m7560y). I have contacted HP support and they told me that there are chances that the card will not work or ruin my PC completely and then piched me up with a 50$ card.... so, short story XD, will this card work for my PCs model number without complications XD ?? Please help... thank you for your responses.\ Ohh and if you can suggest any cards that would be compatible with my PC for around 20$ that be great XD! Re: Installing a new sound card !
If the soundcard manufacturer provides you with an XP driver, and the interface, like PCI, is correct then there shouldn't be any problem with it. I have never heard of a soundcard ruining a computer before, but it is true that if the driver you install for it is corrupt or such then it could render it unbootable. All you do then is go into safe mode at boot up and update driver or disable the sound card and you are back to going again.
As long as the seller/manufacturer says it has an XP driver you shouldn't have a problem. If any doubts on the return of it, in case there is a problem, I'd suggest buying local to overcome that headache.
