Audacity - can't record?

Hi, my son has just aquired a new Dell XPS desktop system running Vista and he can't get the input selection to record from whatever is coming through the sound card (used to be Stereo Mix on his old pc). I guess its got the onboard SigmaTel type.

Do we need to add a PCI internal soundcard to be able to do this?

Sigmatel chips do support this feature in most cases, but you will need an updated driver if you can find one. Is it a C-Major HD Audio STAC92xx?
