HP Pavillion ZD 7000 sound card and Win2k3 SE SP2
Hi,
I have an HP Pavillion ZD7000 notebook with Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2 installed. I've tried several media players and i can't get it to play a file let alone play sound. The machine is acting as though the sound card isn't installed, but there's definitely one in there. Under device manager>sound I see Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices and Video Codecs. And under Device Manager>Other devices I see Multimedia Audio Controller. I've talked to HP and they don't support Windows Server 2003 on this machine though they did send me some files that failed during install. They support Windows XP for this machine and have drivers available to download. Is there a big difference between the way XP and Win2k3 play sound? Is it possible to work with the XP file to make it work with Win2k3? Can someone help? |

Re: HP Pavillion ZD 7000 sound card and Win2k3 SE SP2
Well, I can't switch operating systems, but thanks for the response.
Does anyone else have a suggestion? Can someone answer the questions I posed at the end of my first post? Other notes on things I've read: Windows audio is already enabled to start as a service automatically (and it's started). Anytime I try and adjust audio settings in Sounds and Audio Devices Properties I get an error that says 'DirectSound settings not available' |

Hmm, it's a notebook so I assume it has an onboard audio controller. Do you recall anything about there being high definition audio? It could just be that you need to install support for the high definition audio bus.
Check out this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111 Once you install this, the audio chip should be detectable, and all you would then need to do is install the driver. Last edited by af3; 06-27-2008 at 02:04 PM. |
