"No audio output device is installed" error
I'm getting this image of a speaker with a red x over it. When I hover over it I get the "No audio output device is installed."
This happened after I used windows update to install a few updates. It had 10 of them, two of which did not work successfully. One of those was the sound driver. When I checked through the drivers, it said it was installed but I still get that message along with no sound. I tried to manually install the driver from the website, which I did as well. This did not work either. Any help would be appreciated. Also, on a side note: After the windows update ran, all my minimized windows started appearing on the right side of my screen; an aesthetic I am not pleased with. How can I return it to the default position on the left? |

Re: "No audio output device is installed" error
How do I do this?
edit: So, I went into the device manager and found the audio disabled, so I enabled that. The speaker still has a red x over it in the corner, but when I hover over it, it says that the volume is at zero. But it won't let me raise the volume. I did that because of this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948481 I tried the 3rd option as well, but when I got to the part where I'm supposed to click on default, the default button wouldn't activate. Re: "No audio output device is installed" error
I've already tried that; but the button that says "rollback driver" isn't able to be clicked.

Re: "No audio output device is installed" error
If you have your original device driver CD or know the specific device name for your sound card, then I would totally uninstall and reinstall the device.
