Sound Problem

First I will say that I have checked all the basics for sound problems like those in the Sound Card Forum's 1st locked thread. I have Windows Xp and an HP Pavilion. My hard drive crashed and I sent out to a computer shop for a new one and to see what they could salvage from the old one. When I got it back the sound didn't work, but they assured me it they tested it and it did before I picked it up. The drivers seem to be alright and I'm not getting any error messages. I can, however, hear the Windows startup jingle from the speakers, and nothing after that from any program. Headphones plugged into the front jack on the computer work. The comp shop gave me Panda internet security, and I'm not sure what programs I put on before I realized it wasn't working. It is a SB Audigy 2ZS. If you need any other info I'll be glad to get it. Thanks for the help.
