My mic will not work!

This is a real mystery to me and I have tried everything. Nothing is muted,The volume is turned up and I have reinstalled my sound drivers.
It use to work no problem a while back. Thing is I have`nt used in a long time so I have no idea what if any programs may have affected it. I use my mic for karaoke mostly. I have tried several different mics which I know are all in working order because I have tested them on other divices.I have the mic plugged into the correct port and have actually tried it in all ports
I have sound coming out of my speakers and I can play and hear music no problem.
My head phones even work but can I get my mic to work?
I have soundblaster audigy 2 and creative media source player.
The sound recorder shows no sound when I attemp to record through my mic.

I sure would appricate it anyone could shed some light on this.

Thankyou, Debbie

Grin Re: My mic will not work!

Be sure to select mic in your Windows recording mixer. Start > Run > SNDREC32 > OK > options > properties > recording > OK > select mic > try recording.

I have noticed a trend of new sound cards not supporting live mic output, so if you want to hear yourself, you may have to run an audio repeater program. If you download and install Ableton Live 6 demo, you can use that to repeat your mic's input through your speakers but there will be a delay. You can lower the latency by installing ASIO 4 All and using in conjunction with Ableton to reduce latency or adjust the buffers for Direct Sound to get a lower latency but you will encounter buffer underruns and the sound will skip if you go too low.

Good luck!

Re: My mic will not work!

Thankyou very much for getting back to me.

I tried what you said but there was no mic to even select.
I have properties under both the file tab and the audio properties tab.

Under the file tab properties:
Details, sound, and there is a format conversion area where you can pick either,
All formats, playback formats or recording fomats and a button that says convert now. A window opens that says sound selection and what kind of quality you want.
Format has several options such as windows media audio V1, PCM etc. Attributes has several options for mono, stereo and so on.

I wish I could get you a screen shot of it for you.

Under audio properties:
It shows my audigy sound devices.
Under playback ,recording and midi it all shows SB Audigy(C8C0)

There I can get into audigys controls wher I have all the proper settings in place as far as I know.

It use to work and I`am wondering what has effected it.

I`ll keep plodding away.

It sounds as if you are looking in Sound Recorder's settings.

You need to double click on the speaker near your Windows clock, which it typically located in the lower right. Once you are in the Windows mixers “sndvol32.exe” then go to properties, select recording, make sure the mic is checked, click ok, click the check box next to where it says select in the mic channel and it should magically start working... I hope...

If you want to make some good recordings, I would recommend Audacity:
