X-Fi Xtreme Problems
I came across this site while madly Googling the audio problems I've been having, and I'm really quite impressed. It's pretty rare you find a support forum that isn't essentially filled with geeks going "lawl lrn2 use your puter lawl." I should admit that I'm not a regular user, however, and I've only registered for the express purpose of creating this thread; while I understand this is generally considered poor conduct, I feel as though I've exhausted the vast majority of my options.
I purchased several Creative Labs X-FI Xtreme audio cards (PCI-E) a few weeks ago for several reasons. First of all, the RealTek onboard audio my board came with has some sort of input defect; microphone input sounds terrible. I've been using an ancient SB Live! Value, but it's coming to its end support-wise. I've never been able to get the X-Fi to work in my machine. When I was running XP x64 Edition (a terrible OS, by the way) the failure of my motherboard to detect it was matched only by the failure of Creative Labs to support it. Now that I've gone back to straight XP (Service Pack 3), I'm still having problems with it. Under x64, Windows would only detect "Multimedia Audio Device," while under SP3 it's "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus." The cards didn't come with driver CDs, but when I try to run the latest unified driver packages from CL, I'm told the program is "Unable to detect a supported product on your system," and it exits. I've been led to believe it may be a problem with my board (Asus M2N-E nforce3 -I think it's nforce3-), but flashing it with the latest BIOS from Engrish-laced Asus.com didn't correct it. I've checked all my IRQ settings, and there aren't any conflicts. The card works fine in a different computer, and there aren't heating, seating, or vibration issues. Any ideas? Here are my system specs: CPU: Athlon x64 2600+ Board: Asus M2N-E Memory: 2048M OS: Windows XP Pro (SP3) |

Re: X-Fi Xtreme Problems
It's probably not a problem with your computer hardware unless you have IRQ issues. Creative drivers are known for their pathetic quality control which is why I gave up on Creative and enjoy Razer's sound card.
However, try and grab and older version of the drivers from Creative. You want the full package with the control panel for XFI to work properly. |

Re: X-Fi Xtreme Problems
there are potentially 2 things that might help
1) disable onboard audio in bios 2) use a correct driver Your card is not supported by a unified driver or the latest beta driver. How did you end up with the unified driver? When you go to downloads and select (the X-FI Xtreme Audio PCI-e) only an audio pack is showing and no unified driver.... Anyway: This is the driver you need: taken from this page. Hope this helps. |
