Hello there. This is my second thread, (my last in regard to troubles with my Windows '98 computer.)

- I'm having some difficulty with my audio. Every time I open Windows Media Player I am prompted with an error message stating, "Either the audio device is not installed or is in use by another program." - It's fairly evident to me that there are not any other programs using my audio device, so I've already ruled this out as a possibility, and I'm not entirely sure as to how I have nothing installed? My audio was working fine less than 24 hours ago.

Any questions that are needed to be asked for further assistance, are welcomed. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

When the audio device is not installed properly you will get this type of message but it will show you as installed properly. I mean it installed but not took the right .inf file to install.

Uninstall everything and install the audio device with the mother board CD. If you are not sure which one needs to be installed then go for a setup.exe file which will be there in that CD.

Yep, I noticed that it said it was installed properly. Which confused me at first, until I realized.

Unfortunately I do not have the mother board CD, (or any CD's for that matter.) Is there any other way to get around to making sure everything is installed correctly?

I have no idea. I apologize I'm not really the greatest with computers. Under "Computer:" in "My Computer" it says; "AMD Athlon(tm)" -- if that helps any?

ThorXP is asking what brand is your computer? (For example: Dell, HP, Acer) And depending on the brand, the model should be located somewhere on the outside of the computer.

I don't know. It says "powered by ASES" on the front of the tower. Sorry, I apologize - I'm fairly embarrassed - I'm not very good with computers! I'm computer illiterate, I guess you could say.

I'm not entirely sure as to why my audio does not work. I have already ruled out the possibility of my audio device being used by another program. So I'm lead to believe there's definitely something else that's faulty/incorrect.

Well, I am having problems getting a direct download link for you. So I will give you detailed instructions on how to obtain the driver you probably need.

1. Click this link
2. Near the top left, you will see a text box with input model to search, in that text box, copy and paste A7V400-MX into it, then hit enter.
3. Then, two links will come up, you want to click the one on the left that says A7V400-MX

4. Now, click the AUDIO link
5. You'll see 5 different boxes, the only one you're interested in is the WinXP one. In the WinXP box, you will see Download from
6. Click USA
7. Download and install that driver.

This should work. Let us know.

Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure as to whether or not this has to do with anything related to the audio not working?:

(It comes up after I restart the computer).

I went to the link and I downloaded what you had suggested. Only to come across an error stating something along the lines of, "Important Windows files missing, please insert CD". (I couldn't take a screen shot of it, oddly enough). And just a heads up, I do not have any CD's for the computer.

Well, M3PLUGIN.DLL is malware. So it's actually a good thing it's not there. To stop that message popping up everytime on start up, you can do this:

Start > Run > type in msconfig > startup tab > look for m3plugin or something with MyWebSearch > uncheck the checkbox

To correct the audio problem, it seems that MyWebSearch was a virus and it seemed to corrupt some Windows files. Sadly, I'm afraid, without a Windows CD, you can't recover these files.
