Realtek AC'97: Low audio on front channel

This is an ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe motherboard with on-board AC'97 audio which supports 2, 4, 6 and 8-channel mode. The system is currently running a Logitech X-530 6-channel (5.1) system The problem is that the volume coming out of the two front speakers is EXTREMELY low, whereas the rest of the speakers are at correct volume. At first I suspected that no sound is coming out of the front, but after turning the volume to 100% max, you can then hear the correct sound, but again it is still very low with the rest of the speakers now blaringly loud.

Just to make sure that the problem isn't the speakers, I swapped out the front and rear speaker inputs... audio was then fine on the front speakers, but then the audio coming out of the rears was EXTREMELY low... ie; the speakers are fine.

I have never encountered a problem such as. I think that the front channel may be blown, but figured sound would go out completely and not just drop down to a really, really low level.

This computer is running Windows XP with SP2. Windows audio is currently set to 5.1 compatibility. All drivers are up to date. All volume settings are at 80%.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou,
Brett
