My computer's sound does not work.

I just bought a Dynex DX-SC51 sound card not too long ago, and I followed the installation instructions and it does not work. I had my computer off, inserted the card into the PCI slot, then ran the setup disc. It says the following: "Undetermine card! Do not click cancel on device manager! OS not support!" I have no idea what to do.
Here's some of my system information:
Operating system - Windows XP Home Edition SP2
System manufacturer - Compaq Presario 061
Processor - Intel Celeron CPU 2.70 GHz
Motherboard - MS-6577 Ver. 4.1
Please help!

Re: My computer's sound does not work.

Welcome to TSF.

Have you been using onboard sound until now?
If so - uninstall the audio driver in Device manager.
Then restart the computer, enter BIOS (tap <F1>) and disable the onboard sound.

>> steps 1 and 2, described here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...390&rule=40463

Restart the computer and install this driver: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...0&SubCatID=107

Re: My computer's sound does not work.

I haven't had sound at all. My computer says it has an onboard sound card, but it's never worked. I had it on and I had a driver installed and it didn't work. As for the new sound card, the computer is basically not acknowledging the fact that it exists.

Re: My computer's sound does not work.

Move the card to another PCI slot.

Look in Device manager (Click Start >> Run >> Type devmgmt.msc and click OK).
Any yellow or red "marks" there?

Re: My computer's sound does not work.

I've tried moving the card before. As for the Device Manager, there aren't any red or yellow marks there.

Re: My computer's sound does not work.

Try the card in another computer to see if it's OK.
Also - try another PCI card in your computer to see if the motherboard is OK.
