No Sound.....Need some Help
Greetings,
I had to do a system restore on my Toshiba Laptop and after having it up and running again, I did the Windows XP Updates and also installed IE 7. There is sound/audio when I first log into the laptop but after awhile there is no sounds/audio. When the sound/audio is working, it shows Realtek AC97 as my Sound Device but when it stops working it shows the driver as "No Audio Device". . My audio driver is the Realtek AC97 and I also did the latest update for this driver. When I try to open a music player it says it has detected a problem with my audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. After I reboot the laptop the audio would work again but after say 1/2 hour it turns off again. Before the Restore, I have had XP and IE 7 with no problems with the audio. Does anyone know why my audio/sound disappears over a short time period and how to fix. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by plecos; 04-11-2008 at 12:03 PM. |

Re: No Sound.....Need some Help
Thanks for the reply. I misquoted as I did a system recovery (wipe the entire system and restore to original settings) with the recovery cd and therefore it should be free of viruses. After the system recovery is when the audio stops working after the laptop has been on for alittle while. As for my antivirus, I use Mcafee and also Ad-Aware and SpybotSD. Thanks!

Re: No Sound.....Need some Help
Are you sure the system is "clean"?
Got to Toshiba's download page: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t..._sc_modSel.jsp If the sound still refuses to work - please include the exact model name/number in your next post. |

Re: No Sound.....Need some Help
Thanks for the info. I did the latest updates and the sound still works when I reboot but then goes mute after awhile. It happened this time when I was working on it and the computer somewhat freezes for a few seconds then starts working again but the sound disappears. I would think after system recovery that it would wipe away everything and restore back to original settings but I did a Virus Scan this morning and found nothing.
Therefore, the sound still disappears after awhile when it's running. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite M55-S135. Any info to resove this would be greatly appeciated. TIA! |

Re: No Sound.....Need some Help
To see if there's any log explaining what's happening:
Click Start > Run > type eventvwr.exe and click OK. In Event Viewer > Click "System". See if there's anything coinciding with the system "hiccups". Look in Services - has the audio been disabled? Click Start > Run > type services.msc - then click OK. In the new window - Scroll down to "Windows Audio", right-click on it and select Properties. Another new window - set the startup type to Automatic, click Apply and then click Start. |

Re: No Sound.....Need some Help
Thanks eneles for the help. When I went to Systems under EVent Viewer, there are a couple of error stating: "The sdrcg15d7fv service failed to start due to the follwing error: The system cannot find the file specified."
When I went to Windows Audio, the "Startup Type" has already been set to "Automatic" and the "Start" has been grayed out so you can not select. When I deselect Automatic than select Automatic and press Apply, the "Start" is still grayed out. Thanks. |

Re: No Sound.....Need some Help
Reinstall the audio driver (should be on a CD you got with the computer).
Scan for malware with Kaspersky's online scanner: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner |
