XFI and Legacy Audio
Hey there! Im new to these forums so bear with me,
Recently my PC has started suffering from random freezeups, the only option is to restart manually and the eventlog says nothing. However, i think ive narrowed the problem down to the audio set up with a couple of games/applications which allow me to pick between hardware and software audio modes. I have a creative XFI extreme audio card so im not using the onboard sound my mobo came with, the proper drivers, and the newest ones are installed already so i know this isnt the problem. Under my Device manager in sound, video and game controllers, i have got listed: 'Legacy Audio Drivers' and then further down 'SB XFI Extreme Audio'. Can i remove the Legacy ones as im not using them as far as i know, to sort this out (if it is the problem)? or are they needed for anything/will it cause problems if i do remove them? Many thanks, Darc |

Re: XFI and Legacy Audio
hello & welcome to TSF
do not deleat them !! just disable them for you may need them in the fucture / if it does turn out that you need them then you can always enable then it is always better to have a back up for your add sound card could and can crap out on you ( pray to the pc gods that it don't) even that i do have a good sound card in my gaming rig i keep the drivers on a disk & check for updates every once in a while for when you think everything is all good ( poof) hope this helps Mike

Re: XFI and Legacy Audio
Thanks for the advice chap!, however, it turned out to be one of my graphics cards that was causing the freezing to occur, curse SLI and trying to find the faulty one
![]() It only took a reinstall of windows to figure it out ![]() Cheers again, Darc |
