Hi Guys I"m New And Need Help!!
HI guys, first of all just wanted to say i'm new to this forum. and i'm in some desperate need of audio help on my computer. so first a little background, i'm not really a computer guy, i just now the basics so please bare with me =D thanks.
anways heres my Questoin; i have built this computer 3 years ago and the sound worked, then 1 year later it stopped working. after 2 years, about now, i decided to reformat my computer, and surprisingly the sound worked, 2 days later which is Today the sound stopped working again. i have an Asus A8N-SLI Mobo, and the soundcard is onboard which is:"Realtek ALC850, 8-channel CODEC", is it the same thing as AC97? anways i tried updating drivers, uninstalling then re-installing drivers, umm...installing random drivers i found that supports XP, some of them seem to work for a good hour, then stops, and some jhust don't work. and i'm really fustrated. hope someone can help me. thanks=D sorry for the long read. ![]() Please read this: Sound problems? Try these things first. Download drivers here: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us Remove ALL installed sound drivers. Install the chipset driver. Restart Windows in Safe mode. Install the ALC850 driver. Reboot again. |

ok i have another problem now, when i tried to uninstall it, it gave me this error:
"Setup failed to run installation: Catastrophic failure", therefore i can't uninstall now=( and my sound won't work. please help |

"Catastrophic failure"? - I've never seen that.
Skip uninstalling the sound driver. Install the chipset driver. Reboot. Install the audio driver. Reboot again. |

Is it Windows telling you that the driver is corrupt - or is it when you try to unpack the the downloaded file?
I have downloaded and unpacked the chipset driver, but not tried to install it (don't have that chipset). I think it's the Windows installation that is corrupt. Try a repair install: How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install. Last edited by Deleted090308; 02-25-2008 at 06:26 AM. |
