No Sound with XP on P5GC-MX mobo
New ASUS dual processor motherboard with onboard Realtek sound device.
Device manager - Sounds, Videos and Games, shows the Realtek driver from the mobo's disk, which I installed last night ok. Control Panel - Sounds and Audio says no audio device. !? WMP and Nero don't play but testing the Realtek settings from its icon (in the device/status bar bottom right), great sound did start. I see other people with same problem and a few suggestions but no "thanks it worked !" posts. Any ideas ? |

Solved ! Sure enough, despite seeing repeated advice to download the latest driver, I (mis)figured that since I purchased the mobo 2 days ago, that the accompanying driver disk would be uptodate. ASUS links to Realtek and an error that the original driver had a timeout date imbedded, back in 2005! Cunning devils, (or a developer was about to leave ?) Downloaded the latest driver and Bingo -
