[SOLVED] X-Fi extreme gamer won't work after installing new beta driver.
First off, I should of just left my sound card alone, it was working fine as it was. Secondly I didn't even bother to uninstall the old driver before I tried to install the new beta driver. Really a very dumb thing to do.... I know.
I used Driver Cleaner Pro to try to clear the problem with driver conflicts that might of been caused. Which leads to another mistake I should never of used Driver Cleaner Pro. It didn't seem to even work. Right after I cleaned it, the same audio files re-appeared when I ran it a second time. After that I un-installed everything related with the sound card in safe mode and ran the driver cleaner again to make sure everything was gone, then restarted computer. the audio files were still re-appeared. I ran the x-fi installation software and 1/3 of the way through I get a pop asking for my xp installation cd with sp2, stating the file ksusers.dll is needed. I put the cd in, nothing happens I get a ding and it still says that it can't find that file. All I can do is click on cancel, and then it finishes up installing the console. when I click on to run the audio console. it says that it doesn't recognize the card installed. Also I downloaded an application called EVEREST to check on all the hardware components. And it can see my card in the pci slot. So my computer does recognize that it's there. When I get out of the x-fi setup and click finish, there is sometimes another notice asking for the XP cd. But there is a different message. It states that it detects new version unsupported(its not specific) that may cause system instability. And again asks for the XP cd. It doesn’t even load from that message it just loads up the xp cd menu. My on-board audio does works, but it is horrible sound in comparison. Please if someone has knowledge on how to fix this problem, and has the time to donate. I would be extremely grateful if you could resolve my problem. Jonathan |

Re: X-Fi extreme gamer won't work after installing new beta driver.
Hi
![]() Seems like the registry is messed up - i.e. a repair install or sfc /scannow won't help. I hate to say this, but if I were you I'd do a fresh XP install - saves you time and your mind. Backup any important data first, of course. |

Re: X-Fi extreme gamer won't work after installing new beta driver.
Thanks so much for the advice. All I needed to do was repair windows using my xp cd. part way through the repair it asked for my chipset driver cd. I guess that fixed the problem.
Thanks again. Jonathan

yeah I was extremely surprised it worked after I did the repair and reinstalled the drivers. You know the sound when windows makes when it first starts to load to the desktop? Thats the most beautiful sound I've ever heard in my life. hahaha Cheers

No, I haven't. The problem is weird - must be a driver problem. Windows sounds goes through the left AND right channels - music through the left only - and my TV tuner through the right channel only.

what I would do is open up your case, take out your sound card. Then put it on a hard surface, like cement or something. Take a huge sludge hammer and beat the crap out of the pos card.
You'll feel much better afterward |
