[SOLVED] no sound with re-installed windows 98.
The motherboard is a epox 8KTA3L and it has onboard sound but it is not working. I think I have installed the correct driver off the installation CD but the computer is very quiet. How do I make sure the onboard sound is switched on in the BIOS. It had a separate PCI sound card previously that I have removed because I could not find any drivers for it.
Thank you, Allan |

Simply, on boot go into BIOS Setup and look around. Look for a BIOS menu/item for Onboard Devices or Sound Card, etc.
Does the Win98 Device Manager show your sound card as having no problems? IF I remember correctly, you access Device Manager via System in Control Panel.

Yes, make sure the onboard sound is enabled in BIOS - under integrated peripherals, or something similar.
Driver downloads for EPOX motherboards: http://www.epox.com/USA/downloads.asp Install the chipset driver (VIA hyperion) first - reboot - then the audio driver. |

Re: no sound with re-installed windows 98.
Thank you for your replies. The device manager says there are no conflicts with the sound and it is working but I still do not get any sound.
I can not find any entry in the bios that says 'onboard devices or sound card'. Would it be called something else? I will check on that website for epox motherboards later on. The 'hyperion driver' may have been the other one on the CD, I will check that later also. |
