No sound device after reformatting
I reformatted my computer because of an old game installation gone horribly wrong. When I got it going again I realized I have no sound, checked the Sounds and Audio devices but it says I have no audio device. I tried headphones and speakers already. Its an RS Series vaio desktop, the model number is PCV-RS720G and its running off of an integrated audio port right now. Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to get the drivers you need here.

Thanks you very much, I apologize but im kind of new to drivers in general. On that web page there are alot of different downloads. Could you possibly point me towards the one I want?

You will want he one for the motherboard.
Click on the original tab it is the top one click the see more and it will give you the installation instructions. Print these for a referance. You will also download it from here.

Re: No sound device after reformatting
I installed the motherboard one, the driver pack that they ship them with. It still says no audio device. I tried installing some other drivers earlier today could that mess it up? Or is their some other stuff I have to do after installing the driver pack? The drivers I tried installing earlier never actually extracted anything. But I did install another audio codec.

Re: No sound device after reformatting
Have you checked your bios to make sure it (onboard sound) is still enabled?
Next go into control panel > system > hardware > device manager and see what it shows in for the sound device folder. If it shows a sound device right click on it and disable it. then restart and windows should find new hardware then point it to the driver disk you have. You will likely find in a folder drivers and audio.

Re: No sound device after reformatting
I went into the Bios and in the Onboard Device Settings there wasnt any sound stuff. It was pretty much all LAN stuff. Would reseting the Bios help?
In the Device Manager I didnt see any Sound Device folder, but I did see Sound, video and game controllers which had Audio Codecs, Legacy audio drivers, Legacy Video capture devices, Media Control Devices, and Video Codecs. All of them say they are working properly. In other there is Multi Media Video Controller and PCI Device which both have yell exclamation points if that has any significance. |
