onboard audio problems
Ok I got kind of a wierd one for you guys. My onboard audio has never worked on this computer since it was given to me. When I got it I loaded it with Win XP home and hoped maybe windows would have the correct driver in the database. It popped up Multimedia Audio Controller so I went through and auto-found the driver, which was a CMEDIA AC97. It loaded the driver up fine and then I get an error message...."Cannot open the hardware" or something along those lines.
The wierd part is that I can't get rid of the driver. I've tried uninstalling in the Device Manager as well as in the Add Remove programs in the Control Panel. In the Add Remove programs it shows that I have the Cmedia driver installed. When you click Uninstall, It says its uninstalling...it says it Successfully Uninstalled and then FORCES me to restart. After its done reloading windows the driver is still there in the add remove programs menu. you can keep uninstalling and uninstalling and it will pop up everytime saying it finished uninstalling successfully and makes me reboot. HOW THE HECK DO I KILL THIS DRIVER ONCE AND FOR ALL? I'd like to be able to use my onboard audio and free up a pci slot. Any and all help is appreciated Brandon |

Re: onboard audio problems
Yes I know this....I have the cmedia disabled and my creative audio pci working. If I take out the PCI soundcard and try to use my onboard cmedia it doesn't work, which is why I have the PCI card in. I'd like to be able to free up my pci slot and use my onboard audio, which I can't do because I have the onboard audio driver from hell. LOL
It should also be noted that i've tried installing several different new cmedia drivers but none of them are able to overwrite my wierd cmedia driver. Last edited by tooxtreme26; 02-17-2008 at 08:45 AM. Reason: more info |

Re: onboard audio problems
load the sound drivers from the m/b setup disk
Sound problems? Try these things first.

Re: onboard audio problems
Believe me if it was that simple I already would've done it.
I dont have the motherboard cd but I did go to the compaq website and get the original audio drivers, which also do not work. I'm telling you...I think the old cmedia driver is corrupted! Like i said, I have tried several cmedia drivers and none of them are able to overwrite the driver i already have. How do i get rid of the corrupted cmedia driver? No driver I install is able to overwrite the corrupted one, even if they're newer than the one that I already have. I told you guys this was a wierd problem thx again Brandon |
