New Computer, New Sound Issues

Hello all, I very recently have purchased a new PC from Cyberpower PC, and my sound card is a Creative X-FI Xtreme Gamer. Maybe I am just computer ignorant, but horrible horrible things started happening when I tried to install the creative drivers. I had to reinstall the driver MULTIPLE times, and eventually my computer began crashing and it couldnt find my sound card. Ok, so I did a Windows restore, now everything is working reletively smoothly, but my front audio and microphone ports are working very very poorly. Windows cant even find the microphone when it's plugged in, my games on "Steam" can, but it works very poorly, and it worked fine on my old computer. Windows acts like my headset isnt plugged in when I connect my headset to the front port, the audio coming from it is terrible quality yet sounds great when i plug it directly into the speaker headset port. Also, when I plug the headset into the front port, music continues to play out of the speakers. I have a feeling I could fix these issues if i could just install the Creative drivers correctly, but as I said, they hate me with a passion.

I'm sorry that got very lengthy and wasnt structured all that well.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
