[SOLVED] Fading sound
Hello everyone.
My problem is that my sound insists on turning itself down to zero, no matter what I do. If I press the volume + button on my keyboard it will raise the volume, but as soon as I take my finger off, the sound zeroes out again. I have gone into the sounds and audio devices section of my control panel and tried to raise the sound level. I am able to raise it with my curser (and hear the sound OK) but as soon as I take the curser away the sound drops back to zero by itself. I thought it might be a stuck key on my cordless keyboard so I removed the batteries - it made no difference. The problem might have started at around the same time as I purchased an electric guitar effects unit from Line 6 which has a USB connection. To upgrade the firmware or to download new sound patches you need to download their software which is called the Line 6 Monkey. I did this and upgraded the effects unit's firmware and it all seemed to work just fine. Since this problem started, I removed the Monkey software just in case, but it has made no difference at all. If anyone can help I'd be very greatful. Thanks and regards, Keith |

Re: Fading sound
have you tried to uninstall and reinstall your audio drivers? maybe something is corrupt...or maybe incompatibility with some 3rd party software/drivers you installed. If you have a copy of your sound drivers handy (like some sound card drivers CD or the AC97 drivers or motherboard CD for onboard sound) try going to the device manager, Right click the audio drivers and select uninstall...when you reboot the system, it'll ask to find the drivers, they you just install from scratch...maybe this would work If you don't have the drivers handy they could also be good to go with plug and play...if it's onboard AC97'

Re: Fading sound
Thanks Googi - all fixed now.
I thought I had done what you said by updating the drivers - apparently not. I uninstalled the "SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio" and that left me with only my USB headset. But now, for the first time in a while, the volume slider stayed put so it looked like we were headed in the right direction. The system could not find a driver for the SoundMAX. I thought it was a separate card so I dind't think the motherboard CD would be any help, but I tried it anyway and....voila (is that how you spell it!?). Thanks very much for your help. I now know more about this stuff than I did before thanks to you. I knew about uninstalling and installing drivers but it didn't take much to throw me off the scent. I hope I'll do better next time. Thanks again. Regards Keith Perth Australia. |
