No Sound

Hi, I just recently got a laptop and its a Microsoft Windows XP and I was wondering what do I have to do to get the laptop to play music and other things

if there is no soudn at all even when you start the system or shutdown the system then check for vol icon in bottom right side and check if it is not mute

if fine then check for driver in device mager for soudn card

check in system set up ( bios) if sound option is enabled or disabled...if this is Dell then i can easily help you
