Suprise! XP does not recognize audio card

Hi all

First post for me on this forum.

I'm on winXP. Audio card crapped out one day. I tried a few things, got nothing, so I bought a new card and installed. Still NADA.

I tried the technique I found here on this site:

Got nothing. I have "No Playback Device" and the drop down is grayed out under Control Panel. I DO have Audio Services set to automatic. What gives? I have proper drivers installed, even tried putting card into different PCI slot. Yet nothing is recognized! When I Run dxdiag it shows nothing for audio.

ARGH! I love windows.

Please post your system specs by using this program http://www.cpuid.com/download/pcw2008_v181.exe and we will go from there.

No need, after not finding answers, I got fed up and did a clean install. In the end it was almost less aggravation to do that than search for answers, try lengthy procedures, and still strike out. Thanks for the interest in helping though!

ok, cool. Put your system specs in your profile (see My System). That way in future, its an easy way for us to guide you through any issues you may have.
