Exclamation [SOLVED] MIDI sounds play, but no other format - Please help!

First of all, I'd like to apologize if this has been answered somewhere down the road and I missed it. I've literally searched everywhere for the answer with no luck, so I decided to ask for help.

About 4 days ago, the sound on my computer just stopped working out of no where. So I restarted my computer and it still wasn't working. But the odd thing is, for the first minute or so, I could get the sound to work in Audacity (mixing program), but then afterwards it would stop working. Then after a few more restarts, the audio decided to work (in any program), but the quality was terrible. And since my computer was restarted from then, no sound has been working. At all.

Everything is apparently working properly. But I can't even open the Volume Properties. When I double click it, I get the message "There are no active mixer devices available ... The program will now close" When I open up Sounds and Audio Devices, under the Volume tab everything is grayed out. When I open up iTunes it says "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly" Nothing is working at all...

My sound driver is Realtek AC'97. So after some research I downloaded and installed it for updates I guess. After doing that and restarting my computer, MIDI files seem to work. Like, MSN, error messages, etc. But no other format seems to be working.

I'm so frustrated because it's almost been close to a week without any sound, and it's really upsetting me.

I'm sorry if I didn't give enough information. I'm a newb to all this driver stuff, as I've never had a problem in the past. Also, sorry for the lengthy post.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Please!!
Thanks in advance.

Try installing some codecs:

Wow, that easy? Thanks so much!!

I wonder what happened for it to lose all the codecs...

Again, thank you.
