Sound issue

I am getting this message from Windows Media player

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.
I have run the tests that is suggests and have a MIDI in place,(speakers work) but no WAVE file. Is there any diagnostic that can be downloaded to show what is the issue be it hardware or software?

Try reinstalling your sound driver.

Already did twice, no luck, I still think that I have a bad sound card. Just haven't had the chance to pull it yet.
