There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.
I have tried to reinstall the drivers...I have no CD with my computer, I have installed belarc and it has given me this info.

Re: Sound wont work after reinstaling XP

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
After the reinstall of XP it sounds like you are missing drivers.
Can you post the make, model, service tag or part number on this computer?
Also, go to the device manager, Right click My computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager and POST anything in yellow or red exclamation points.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Sound wont work after reinstaling XP

Hi Julie,
If you can discribe the PC Make, Model etc.. If this is a Manufactured PC such as a Dell or Gateway there should be a tag on the side or back of the PC. If you can not find one then run Everest at the link below and POST the results.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Sound wont work after reinstaling XP

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Unpack (unzip) the downloaded files.
Install the IDE driver - reboot.
Install the audio driver - reboot again.

Re: Sound wont work after reinstaling XP

Strange... It doesn't ask me for a password.
When you unzip the audio driver a folder named "SMAXWDM" should be created.
Inside that folder > double click "Install".

Re: Sound wont work after reinstaling XP

Try this instead:

Open Device manager (Click Start > Run > type devmgmt.msc > click OK.
Find the audio device in Device manager > right click it > choose "Update driver" in the menu.
New window: Choose "Install from a list or specific location" and click "Next".
devm.jpg
Another window: Choose to search in a specific location and browse to the folder with the downloaded driver.
devm2.jpg
Click Next and follow the wizard. Close Device manager and reboot after the driver has been installed.
