No sound from any olayer on USB receiver
This sounds to me like a hardware problem but I still can't solve it.
I have the Yamaha RPU100 receiver which has a USB connection so the deice can be controlled by the computer. All of the on/off functions work, the radio tuner works from the computer mouse interface. But all of a sudden I lost all sound from players like VLC, Real Alternative and Winamp. Nothing would play any streams or audio with video. Even the video plays ok. The device does it's sound check too. I checked the plug from the onboard AC'7 audio and its plugged in ok. I'm stumped. There's nothing left. Other events of the day included some reinstalling of nero burning rom and some cleaning operations. I have checked for all the 'mute' buttons I can find. This looks like something I did inadvertently but I'll be damned if I can find it. I do not think the on board audio went bad 'like that' in an instant, but I have no way to know either. Worst case, can I install an old soundcard on the board and get sound back? What's the procedure for flipping onboard sound to a card? But please, let's work on the original problem. |

Re: No sound from any olayer on USB receiver
After a night of fretting, I solved the problem today.
It was not obvious: The little speaker at bottom of Windows Control bar has Wave audio set at zero. I do not know how this setting happened since my stuff always plays fine and I wasn't fiddling with the settings at all. Unfortunately this was the last place I had to look. All the other clues pointed to no hardware problem: the test mode of playing audio tones worked both in the Yamaha software and the AC'7 software provided with my board. These must bypass any Wave file settings. To check this you have to right click on the speaker icon and open controls that way. If the first slider is at zero volume and or the Mute Box is clicked, unclick the mute and slide the volume up to get players working. My question still is: how to these things happen? |
