7.1 Speaker system operating in two channels.

Hi.

I am having some issues with my 7.1 speaker system (Creative Inspire P7800). My sound card is an integrated sound card on my MSI mobo.

Basically, I always get everything in two channels. All of the speakers work fine, but there is no individualization. I get sound from all three of my right speakers when I should only get sound from one. For example, if I go into the Realtek HD audio Manager thingie and go to Audio I/O I can click on speakers to test them. If I click on front left, I should get sound from the front left, yes? Instead I get sound from my front left, my side left, and my rear left.

Same occurs with all speakers as you would expect. When sound is supposed to output from the center speaker, I get sound from all 7 speakers!

Of course, when listening to a 2-channel MP3 file, this is fine. But when trying to play a video game or watch a move that utilizes 6/8 channel sound, it's really freaking annoying. I am tearing my hair out trying to figure out the solution. I have installed all drivers about 34 times from 34 sources. I have checked the settings in windows and they are set to "7.1 home audio" or whatever the crap it's called.

I had it working properly before with Windows XP x64 edition, but now I am using Windows XP Pro w. SP2 and I am having these problems. I have been searching the net for weeks and posting on various message boards trying to get the answer. Can somebody please help me?

Also I am getting a lot of crackling at times but that's another issue for another day...

Re: 7.1 Speaker system operating in two channels.

I recently had a problem with my possibly similar T7900 7.1 speakers and resolved the problem to the use of the wrong cable using the "product documentation" and "contact customer support" links available at http://www.creative.com/support/ (In my case I was using a cable with four jacks at each end instead of the one with four at one end and three at the other!) Also I found my Creative Sound Blaster card had a Speaker connection wizard found in Programs/Creative/Sound Blaster X-Fi. Dont know if any of that might help...
