M-Audio Revolution 7.1 - Wrong Output Frequency

Hello all
I have an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 audio card which I am having problems with.
Seems to be affected by only certain type of audio - not all.
I have the sound card line out connected to a set of 2.1 set speakers and have the output frequency set to 44100. During playback, the output frequency sometimes jumps to 48000 and the audio coming out sounds like it's on valume. And it won't let me just select the 44100 frequency. Everything sounds fine if I unplug the speakers from the card and plug them into my ASUS P4P800 deluxe motherboard.
I have contacted M-Audio who instructed me to check the box that says "Do not map through this device" in the audio properties. I have done this but it has no change. I also tried to disable the motherboard soundcard - but that didn't help either.

Also, I noticed that it happens on DVDs I recorded on my Panasonic DVR. My DVR records in Dolby Digital. So I'm assuming that all the other web sites or movies that have this problem were also recorded in Dolby Digital. But I can't confirm that.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, welcome to TSF.

The audio in DVD movies is usually 48kHz. Could you explain what's wrong with the sound, apart from the volume.

Basically it sounds like it's being played back at the wrong pitch. Everything is much deeper although the actual voice is still in-sync with the movie. It just sounds terrible. The volume is not affected.

I know this problem would go away if I could stop the driver from jumping to 48000.

See if you can change the audio settings in the DVD player, or try VLC media player.

Nice player - but it does the same thing. And I can not find anywhere to change the frequency of the video being played.
Thing is, when I try the same home video using my motherboard sound card instead of the M-Audio card - everything sounds fine.

Re: M-Audio Revolution 7.1 - Wrong Output Frequency

It seems that m-audio has major problems with their drivers - it's most likely a driver issue. See if you can find updated drivers.

Also - disable "Digital playback" in Control panel > Sounds and audio devices.

I think you're right about the M-Audio drivers. I have the latest driver for this card and it's release date was Feb 2004.

I don't have a disable "Digital Playback" in my Sound and audio devices. I'm using XP and the M-Audio revolution only has Master Volume, Wave, SW Synth and CD player as the possible options for sound playback. And the advanced options have Hardware acceleration and sample rate conversion quality.

Does the M-Audio card have some special features you need? If not, I think you should use the onboard sound only.

Yes - the M-Audio card has a much better sound quality when I'm recording. All is fine if I use it for recording and playback. It just messes up the frequency when playing a DVD movie.

BTW - I found where the digital audio is enabled. Seems that it occurs during installation. There is a choice to enable or disable digital audio. I will have to un-install the software and re-install it to disable this feature as there isn't anyway I could find to change it once it's installed.

I'll give it try and see what happenes...

scour M-Audio's website and see if you can find a beta release driver...
