Sound Doesnt Work When I unplug External Sound Card-Please Help
I apologize in advance if I've put this thread in the incorrect section of the site. I dont know if it belongs here or in the laptop section, or in a Microsoft section. I've been using my Dell 710m laptop (w/ Windows XP). It has a SigmaTel driver for the audio to be played through the internal speakers and the headphone port. I recently bought a Phillips Aurilium PSC805 external soundcard. I installed the software and hooked it up and it works great.
Here is the issue: After installing the software(/driver?) on the disk that came with the computer I can no longer hear any audio other than through the new soundcard. Ideally, I would unplug the USB plug from the soundcard and the laptop would transfer the audio out to the internal speakers/headhone port. I will be keeping the external sound card at my desk near my home theatre system and when I take my computer mobile I want to be able to have audio capabilities. I did figure out that if I go to the Device Manager in the My Computer properties I can disable/enable Aurilium Sound Agent 2 (WDM) and after restarting my computer I can toggle between using the external sound card and the internal one. I would not consider having to make this change to the device manager and restarting my computer acceptable every time I take my laptop to another room or with me somewhere. What else can I do. I would like to thank you and tell you how much I appreciate any help or advice you can give me. I am very new to this kind of issue and have no idea where to go from here. Please help me! Thanks, Daniel |

Re: Sound Doesnt Work When I unplug External Sound Card-Please Help
What is the version of the driver you are using? Here is a link for the latest drivers and manual:
http://www.search.philips.com/search...mer&l=us_en&h= Upgrading the driver may help. I did go over the manual, but it does not state on how to disconnect the device to see if the way it is being disconnected is causing you the problem. I would think using the safely remove hardware feature it would cause XP to revert back to your internal speakers since the device is no longer connected. But I am not sure if you have to reboot after doing this. Also I would check to see if there are any adjustments for this WDM (right click on the Icon in the system tray). You may be able to adjust properties so that the WDM does not start when Windows, thus loading the WDM when you want or need it. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Sound Doesnt Work When I unplug External Sound Card-Please Help
is windows still trying to acces the external card after it is unpluggeD?
goto cotrol panel/ sound and audio devices. after you have unplugged it and see what it says as a playback device. if it is still your external card change it to your internal card and it should work. hope it helps. i tried. |
