no audio device
Hello, this is my first post and I am going crazy!!
I have a Gateway desktop with Windows xp. Every once in a while the sound would not work on my computer, but restarting would fix it. Now, however, even that doesn't help. I have gone to the control panel and sounds and it says that I have no audio device for playback, but there is a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio device and driver for the recording. My computer just won't recognize it for playback. I have checked that all the sound devices are enabled and working properly through the troubleshooter, but still nothing. I have tried to update the driver, but there isn't a better one and I tried to Rollback the Driver, but it won'tlet me because it says that it hasn't been backed up. I don't know what else to do because I don't know anything about BIOS so I didn't try to go there. Everything was on the computer when I bought it so I don't have installation CDs for anything...it just worked before. Help would greatly be appreciated :) Last edited by mamacrouse; 07-04-2007 at 08:16 AM. Reason: forgot something |

Re: no audio device
Well, I tried both of them and it didn't work.
I already had the 5240 Driver, but tried it anyway. Do I need a different device? Last edited by mamacrouse; 07-04-2007 at 11:09 AM. Reason: forgot something |

Re: no audio device
No I dont think you need a different device.
Go on to Device Manger (Right Click on My Computer > Properties > Click on the Hardware Tab and Then Click on Device Manager) When that opens click on View and then Show Hidden Devices. You then need to look for the Sound,Video and game controllers. Is there any icon above any of them? |

Re: no audio device
My computer is an Acer TravelMate 2300. It worked normally for a little while then it just randomly stopped playing audio stuff. When I hit backspace it still does the little boop. But when MSN shows someone is saying something I don't hear the noise, or on You Tube there is no audio. It'd really help.
