[SOLVED] Problems regarding my Microphone and sound card

Hi guys, i'm hoping you may have ideas as to what to do with this because i'm fresh out.

I have a SoundMax sound card in my rig and have always had trouble with my microphone. It's unbelievably quiet even after being set so that all of the microphone settings are at full.

I literally have to stick the microphone down my throat before i get any thing, which is less than convenient.

I've established it's not the microphone as i have tested 4 different microphones and all have the same problems.

Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to TSF!

Have you turned on the Mic boost? Open up the main volume control (from the start menu) and click the Advanced button under the mic meter (If it isn't there, go to File > Advanced controls and you should see it. Put a check in Mic boost and it should be louder.

Re: Problems regarding my Microphone and sound card

The mic boost is currently on and is the only way of letting me know if my mic is muted or not. Without mic boost it is totally silent.

I don't understand what's wrong and it's driving me mad.

Re: Problems regarding my Microphone and sound card

This may sound dumb, but is the mic connected to the correct port?

If that isn't it, a driver update might be necessary. Post your motherboard/PC manufacturer and model.

Re: Problems regarding my Microphone and sound card

Asus's site is currently having some issues, but try these drivers:

Remember to uninstall the old ones first.

Re: Problems regarding my Microphone and sound card

How would i go about uninstalling drivers?

Installing's a breeze, but i've never had to uninstall any.

Scrap that, i've just downloaded that driver and i'm even more confused, so many files

Re: Problems regarding my Microphone and sound card

Uninstall the audio device in Device manager. You should see something like SoundMAX Audio. Uninstall it, reboot, and then install the new driver.

It's working perfectly now, in fact the microphone's a little too loud!

Thank you very much, your expertise have proven invaluable.
