playing a divx movie stops my mp3s from skipping? weirdest problem ever

hey guys-
i own a toshiba satellite a105-s2231 laptop which comes standard with onboard realtek HD sound. my cousin recently gave me his Echo Indigo Io card cause he doesnt use a laptop anymore, so i decided to give it a whirl. i installed the card, disabled the onboard sound, did everything by protocol the way youd expect (except for disabling the onboard sound in bios, because there was no option to.. but thats a different topic for a different time) when i tried to play mp3's it was skipping like crazy giving this horrible choppy distorted sound. after trying a million and one combos to make it work, i kinda accidentally ran into a solution.. for some reason if i open up a movie file in divx, my mp3 playback immediately starts to work beautifully. i have no idea what the deal is, all i have to do is open up a movie file for a second in divx, then all my mp3s work perfectly. anybody have a clue whats up? im thinking there might be a conflict between my sound card and my video card but i have no idea what the conflict is between, or how to fix it. any thoughts? its not the worst thing in the world to have to run a movie for a sec to make my sound work but id obviously rather just be able to play my music.
thanks in advance
rob
