I'm pretty stupid when it comes to this kinda thing. If this is in the wrong spot, i'm sorry. please let me know.

Let's see. I use a Dell Inspirion 8600, a nice expensive piece of junk, but it's what i've got. it use windows xp. I have SigmaTel C-Major Audio.

My mic used to work just fine. i dont use ti often, but when i did, i never had trouble. I successfully use it this past summer. shortly after i got a major virus attack. I then got a new larger hard drive. I installed all the drivers I was told too, off the Dell site. about a month later, i had to reformat the computer, due to some troubles I was having (and still am, but lesser.. but thats a different thread lol).

Now just recently, I've found that I have a desire to use my mic regularly. but now it will not work properly. i've tried just using sound recorder, but got nothing. i tried getting a new program. Wave Pad. I use Record Pad to make recordings.

When I record i have to turn my volume up to max. It appears to only record static, but i tried tapping on the computer near where the mic is, and it records the tapping sound, as well as instant messanger sounds. but does not record anything else playing on the computer (often but not always). it will not record my voice. even if i mut my mouth right up to the computer.

for a kick, i tried plugging my headphones into the external mic outlet. i could get it to record my voice (still if i kept it at max volume, which causes alot of static and noise. BUT it not only picks up my voice, but it seems to be picking up a local am radio station. same deal if i try to use it to talk through my messenger. they only hear the broadcast then, none of me.

also, i should note, that i do not hear the broadcast or interference during regular sound playback or activity. i only hear the broadcast myself, when i playback any sound file i recorded myself

I am absolutely clueless about what I can do to fix the internal mic prob, or the broadcast signal...

any help would be appreciated greatly :D

Hi dont know about your program, I had problems with the mic also, I updated the driver and things got better. Maybe you can try an hijack this log or run a virus program called spybot (free) don,t know the link but you should be able to find it on most browsers

i'm virus and spyware free. i have reinstalled the drivers before. i could try again i suppose, if it was thought to be helpful.

i have no clue what hijackthis is

Look on the home page for hijack this log help that explains all, and make sure the driver is up to date

i installed the driver about 2 months ago i think. but i will check the site again for any update. i'l look on about hijack this
