Re: Case Sound Ports
Hi,
Are you using a dedicated PCI sound card? If so, the front audio ports won't work. If you are using the onboard sound, reconnect the connections going to the front line-out and mic ports.

Re: Case Sound Ports
Have you made sure the front outputs were enabled in the BIOS if that is an option? What motherboard do you have?

Re: Case Sound Ports
Check the device manager for any devices with yellow !'s next to them. Also, reinstall the chipset drivers and see if that fixes it.

Re: Case Sound Ports
Look under system devices and see if you can find anything to the effect of "Front Audio Ports".
To install the chipset drivers, uninstall any display drivers, reboot and go into safe mode, run the setup program, then boot back up normally and see if the audio ports work.

Re: Case Sound Ports
If you did not find that in the device manager, you probably don't have a driver for it.
First, try running a system restore to a day or two before this became a problem. If that does not work, download these chipset drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_...xp32_8.26.html Reboot, go into safe mode, and install them. Then boot back up normally.

Re: Case Sound Ports
If the chipset drivers didn't fix it, then there is a problem with the board. I would contact HP for a replacement. If your computer is not under warranty, you can put in any Micro ATX computer case.
If you frequently use the front audio ports, you can get a 3.5mm extension cable to plug into the back of your computer. Also, many speakers you buy have a headphone port in the front of them so that when you plug in a pair of headphones, it will mute the speakers.
