[resolved]how to disable on-board sound?

Hi everyone, I have been a lurker for some time but just registered because I'm sure you smart folk know the answer to my problem!
I have several PCs all running Win2k.
I put a Gemini PCI soundcard in the Microstar motherboard/AMD 1.5GHz PC and loaded the driver. I can see it on the hardware profile, but the sound continues to come from the on-board socket and I cannot disable it.
Any ideas?
cheers, Baiter.

Re: how to disable on-board sound?

Hi,
You have to disable the onboard sound in BIOS. What's the motherboard model?

Re: how to disable on-board sound?

hey that was fast!
The m/b is Microstar MSI K7T MS6330.
I just got Driverclean because someone with similar problems recommended it, but have not tried it yet.
cheers, Baiter

Re: how to disable on-board sound?

If you need any help to disable the onboard in BIOS - just post back. After you've done 'the disabling' you can re-install the drivers for your soundcard. Please post back with the result, so we (hopefully) can list this as resolved.

Re: how to disable on-board sound?

Don't bother with driverclean, use the suggestion posted regarding bios. I used to use the same exact board from MSI but I can't remember what category they controlled the onboard sound.

Anyhow, I take it from your initial post that you probably don't have much experience from a technical standpoint. Note this bios from what I remember requires that you hit the "DEL" key before it has a chance to boot windows. This is typically after the short beep when you turn the computer on. You would hit the DEL key and wait for the menu with the big fonts...

If you are totally lost, come back here and he'll walk you through it.

Re: how to disable on-board sound?

Hey thanks for that, it worked!
You are right I am not really a computer geek, I just expect to switch it on and use it.
cheers, Baiter.
