very old card-help please

i have a really old sound card (its a regular pci). and i want to use it in my new computer just for the game port, ill use on board audio for sound. I tried just plugging it in and letting windows install it but no luck, windows does not have the drivers for it, i think they may have never made drivers for it for windows xp. i searched the internet and found some drivers for it but windows still didnt recognize it after i tried to install the drivers. is there any way i can get it to work?

Re: very old card-help please

Out of curiousity, do you want the game port because you have a joystick or other game controller that only has that legacy plug? That plug should not need any special driver to be used as a legacy device. Don't expect any special mappings or anything like that to come from it, but all the modern controllers are usb based.

Let us know if you are just trying to retain support for a game controller you want to keep and what brand and model of game controller it is. Maybe by some miracle, that company have some software to allow better detection and support under a new OS environment.

Re: very old card-help please

I don't think you are gonna find that much cheaper. Since it's generic brand, I can't really even do a real price comparison on it. But do remember this advise I give everyone... You get what you pay for. These look like they spent more time on the design then the product. Be weary of it's quality.

Personally, I think this is a pretty good deal but you have to buy two if you want dual:
http://www.pricegrabber.com/user_sal...lot_id=5759178

They are made by Logitech but to get this price I found refurbished ones. I would think that a refurbished Logitech is still better quality then a $4 new generic gamepad? Anyone agree with me?

As far as the legacy game port support, it looks like that's not an issue anymore so we can close this thread.

Good Luck! Remember, you get what you pay for. My personal favorite though I don't even know if they make them anymore is the Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad... I just loved that thing.

Take it easy

Hello Adam, to get the system drop down menu do the following:
1. Click "User CP" in the upper lefthand corner of this page.
2. Click Edit Options
3. Under "Thread Display Options", "System Specs" choose "Yes" and enter your your specs below that, when you're done scroll to the bottom of the page and "Save Changes".

Re: very old card-help please

I was wondering where this came from since his issue was resolved. But the I saw where you quoted "Originally Posted by adamb_135 View Post

I can't find that in this thread... Strange.

Hello Smz. It was posted as part of his signature, but he deleted his signature after adding the Sys specs drop down menu.
