New soundcard problems :(
Hi all,
This is my 1st post, i have just put a soundcard in and it doesnt do what i want it to do! I bought a Trust 5.1 soundcard 514DX (sc-5250) from here http://www.kikatek.com/product_info....ducts_id=14467 It has optical inputs which i assumed supported 5.1 surround sound like all of my other equipment does but it only comes thru the front speakers and sub after a while i just get a complete mess of noise coming from the speakers I wanted to connect my games consol to it for true 5.1 gaming. It works in my lounge thru an amp i have with the optical input but not on this card! Please say its something im doing wrong and that it can be easily sorted!! Thanks for the much needed help guys!! |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Hi 5, First, did you have a sound card before? If so did you unistall it completely? This can be hard and better men than me will help.
If no card, did you have onboard sound? Again this needs getting rid of and should really be done in the BIOS. Pull out the Trust and try to get back to how you were, disable all other sound and re instal. Lastly, check Trust website for latest drivers. Dave. |

Thanks for the reply I had onboard sound before, i have not gone into the BIOS do remove it. TBH i woud not know how. I have gone into the device manager and disabled the previous onboard sound drivers. Would an old driver cause it not to have true 5.1 surround sound from the optical in? Thanks |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Actually I've got Medcen e on this machine. You will get dire stories about it in relation to sound issues but in the 6weeks I have had this pc I have had only 1 sound issue (a BIGGY mind you!) and I cannot say mce was to blame.
I am not the man to take this further but this is my experience, one, off; Any remnant of any sound system can be a problem. Disabling sound in device manager probably won't help so start finding out how to get into your BIOS. You will need the make and probably model and serial no of your "motherboard" (MOBO) then someone on the forum can help you through it. My (bad) experience was that I had installed a program BEFORE turning off o/b sound. This could be your trouble and so I say get back to the start point WITHOUT the Trust drivers and having had a T card, this might not be trivial. Others might disagree but I reckon sound and soundcard problems account for 50% of all pc woes! (From what I gleam from the Mags, Vista will cause exponential growth in that figure). Be patient and these guys will help you. Dave. |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Please post your full system specs, we will then be able to explain how to get into bios to turn the onboard off.
I have to agree with Dave in that you should start over so take his advice and remove the drivers for the sound card |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Ok i have read thru the trust site after i had to sign up and found that it doesnt support 5.1 optical input! Its purely for connecting a minidisk or something similar. So i would need to buy a decoder or something like that.
So that idea is out the window. However i have got my soundcard working with media centre and winDVD but not with windows media player I also have another error with the standard game port which says:- "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system." This is linked to the main CMI8738/C3DX soundcard. It also says under resources "Input/Output Range 0201 - 0201 not available." I have disabled a few but i dont know why its still doing it. There is a pic below showing all the sound, video and game controllers. I have also tried to move it to another PCI slot but that didnt help. My System is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 1 GB RAM Asus Crossfire Motherboard I take it you could turn the onboard sound on again in the bios if its disabled? Thanks for the help, its all abt too technical for me! i would like to learn tho!

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Beyond me too 5! I ran my Trust card on a P3 600mhz 256ram pc for a year and ran MIDI thru' the game port so it is telling you porkies somehow.
My old card is the Trust 514dx 5.1 sound optical expert Item no 12950. It's yours if you want it. Dave |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Enter bios by tapping the delete key at bootup, look around in bios, it should say something like disable onboard sound, disable it, don't forget to save when you exit. Maybe this will get rid of the resourse error
If you can't find it let me know and I will download your manual. Did you run the cd that came with the card and load drivers? |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
keep me posted on how it goes after turning off in bios if all is well we will leave well enough alone but if not then we will remove the drivers with a special program and reload them, maybe there messed up from a conflict with the onboard

Re: New soundcard problems :(
Hi Doby,
Sorry to impinge but you have just mentioned a program that can remove unwanted drivers. I had an incredibly difficult time getting rid of C-Media and Terratec rubbish and even now I come accross bits of file. There is probably a lot left in the registry but I am cerainly not qualified to mess with that! The Trust disc does not have an unistall facility, when I asked their tech' dept for assistance all some dibby bint could tell me was to run "restore". I would like such a program in my "tool box" if I could prevail? Many Thanks, Dave. |

Re: New soundcard problems :(
ecc83, NP, I don't know if it will remove the drivers you spoke of, I mainly use it to remove video and sound drivers because windows can do a poor job of removing drivers sometimes and leave remnants behind that cause strange problems.
This is the free version http://http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Driver-Cleaner-Professional.shtml There is also a pay version that I am sure has alot more features, you may want to check that out its at "drivercleaner.net" |
