B-enspirer software installation problem

I hope someone here can help, as Bluegears hasn't responded to multiple support requests.

I installed a b-enspirer soundcard in my desktop - an IBM ThinkCentre M52. It sort of works. You get sound, and I was able to download and install drivers from bluegears. BUT - their software for balancing speakers, adjusting sound, etc., refuses to install. When I try it, I get an error message that says ""Please Plug-in C-Media Oxygen HD Audio." I've tried reseating the card multiple times. I've switched the slots I had it in. I've cleaned out the temp files, which have sometimes caused other installation problems. Nothing seems to work. The software simply won't recognize the card. And I have disabled the onboard sound through BIOS, and made sure everything I could find defaults to the b-enspirer card.

Any suggestions? Or, lacking a solution, is there third-party software that would allow me to balance the speakers, etc.? I've looked, but don't see anything, although I might just not be looking in the right place.

Thanks!

Chris

Follow-up

I did a bit more digging around today, and while I'm still having the problem, I can be a bit more specific. The bluegears drivers aren't working. I forgot that when XP detected the card, I let it find drivers. Those work. If I uninstall those, the bluegear drivers still ask me to plug the card in. I've also tried downloading a C-Media driver, and the same thing happens - it asks me to plug the device in.

Yet XP recognizes the card and installs C-Media Oxygen HD drivers for it.

Not sure if that makes the problem any clearer...

Confused, but working...

Okay, so the latest in my mini-saga. Figured I'd double-check my BIOS, and there was a newer version (from last month; I had a November update installed). I updated that, and on rebooting, the icon for the configuration software shows up in my system tray. So now I can adjust things.

Does anyone know why updating the bios would fix this? Just out of curiosity at this point, really.
