sound dies

ok so everything was fine before i left for 2 days. now that i am back my sound is all messed up and i have no idea how. when i start my pc the sound works fine for a while, then it will randomly die or partialy die. my sound in itunes, winamp, firefox, games, ventrillo, and more all die, yet the windows sounds work, as do AIM sounds. if i restart they will be on again as i start, then die eventualy, after id say 5 or 10 minutes, depending on what i do. i could use winamp a while then turn on itunes and sound will all die including winamp. i tried troubleshoot and such and found no answers so any help would be great, thanks.

I would first check inside your case and make sure that your sound card is properly seated in the PCI slot. Next I would go to the manufacture website and download the updated drivers. If you do not know the manufacture or model you can download Everst and it will give you complete specs on your system.

k tried that, i also tried system restore. its really weird i get on my pc and i loged on ventrillo (microphone program) and i used a while, then got itunes going and it wouldnt work, nor would winamp after that. yet ventrillo still worked... then i got off and on it and it didnt work. i really dont get it

oh and sound works on vidoes and such for gamespot and youtube

Is this an on board sound card or PCI?
