No Audio Device?

Hello fellow human beings (i hope you all are humans @_@)

Well anyway, I just got onto the computer, to find out that the sound doesnt work! It kinda does, because it makes the Log Out sound and stuff like that, but when I open iTunes, it says there's a problem with your audio devince or something like that? Yeah, and I cant hear any sound from games, websites, videos, everything, but when theres an error message, it makes a BEEP, but I don't think it's coming from the speakers. When I went to the device manager, the Conexant High Definition Audio is working properly -- I DONT THNK SO MISTER! Restarting doesnt fix it, I even downloaded the driver from the HP site, and it comes up with an error message but I'm too lazy to check.

Any help here? It would be highly appreciated.

I Have The Same Problem!

Can someone please respond! I have the same problem as the above poster, I hear the windows sounds upon logging in but when I try to a) watch a .avi/.mpg or b) play an .mp3 or c) hear sounds from the web or anywhere else on my computer, nothing works! With iTunes, I also get a message that says there may be a problem with the audio device. When I check the settings, it says that it is working properly, but when I go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices it says that there is no Audio device. I have a Conexant AC-97 Audio. Help!

Hi,

A couple of things. First of all, did you load first of all the chipset drivers from your motherboard disk? Second, did you load all the audio things from your motherboard disk?. Third (O.K., I said two, so forgive) if you go into the device manager, are there any red or yellow marks in that area?

Was the sound working well before?
Do you have any good System Restores saved?

This problem is one of my worst nightmares. I've seen it unresolved so many times all over the net that

The sound was working just fine, and has been ever since I got the laptop until this happened all of a sudden. I haven't really done any system restore or anything like that.

To be honest, I re-started my computer a bunch of times. Also, there was a Windows update that had yet to be installed when I was having the problems, and after a few reboots I suppose they kicked in. Very strange that it cut of though.....anyway, thanks for the help and I will be sure to stick around!
