Which Sound is better?

Okay, I am in the process of rebuilding a 2nd computer for my sons.
I am mixing some new with some not-so-new parts. The question I have is this...

I just bought a new motherboard:

MSI PT880 Neo-LSR
This motherboard has the following info about the on-board audio...

Audio
6 Channel software audio codec Realtek ALC655
- Compliance with AC97 v2.2 Spec
- Meet PC2001 audio performance requirement

I have a SoundBlaster PCI 128 model CT4700. I know this is a pretty old card and dont really want to buy another soundcard. Which is better... the On-board Audio or should I use the SoundBlaster?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

This is a personal opinion and soundblaster cards, even the old ones are fine. However, unless you are looking for a specific sound, I would use the onboard for that rig in a heartbeat. IMHO, the other card will not produce any better sound than the onboard in this case. The onboard sound cards are nowdays about all you need unless you have a specific need above the normal usage.
