Sound Blaster Live Issues
I received a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card from my brother the weekend. I isntalled it into an open PCI slot but when I turn my computer on it only gets to the Win Boot screen then my whole system frezzes up.
But when I boot up in Safe Mode it pics up the sound card and installs the drivers for it automatically for XP. When I look on the card I dont see anything that has burnt out or that smells or looks funny. Would this be a conflict of drivers or is the Sound Card dead? |

I didnt get a installation disc with the sound card. However, windows installs the sound card drivers automatically when I boot in safe mode.
Can someone please just tell me if this means that the card is ok and that the problem is indeed conflict or not, so that I can atleast know if Im wasting my time with the card... |

Yes I know the disc has all the software, but as I said I DO NOT HAVE THE INSTALLATION DISC as it is not a brand new card. However, windows picks up the card when I boot in safe mode and automatically installs the drivers.
I know that not having the installation dics cannot be the issue because if I DO NOT boot up in safe mode I cant even get into Windows my system freezes up at the boot screen. My system specs are below my avatar, where it says: My System Last edited by Pvisagi; 11-14-2006 at 01:41 AM. |

in msconfig untick all the boxes
try rebooting in normal mode if successful retick the boxes one at at time until it stops rebooting normally to try and isolate the cause

Ok I will try it tonight but can you atleast tell me this, in your opinion do you think that I am correct when saying it is a conflict of some sort or do you rather think that the card itself is not working.
The reason why I think it is a conflict is because when I boot in safe mode it does pick up the card and installs the drivers automatically. My opinion is that if the card didnt work then it wouldnt even install the drivers in safe mode. Is this correct or can it still be a problem with the card itself? |

with xp it is a rare occurance for an irq conflict unlike earlier versions,it is normal to find 4 or 5 sharing the same irq with no problems
being as you start normally in safe mode but not wioth a normal boot indicates software in your startup is the problem, something may need reinstalling
