Sound causing my internet to dc?
Ok i've posted this up in a different thread quite a while ago, but its long dead now. So here's the problem:
While playing any game or watching any video on my PC, there is a small chance that my sound would crash. That is, just disappear. This would cause my video to lag for a second. However, when it does stop, not only am I unable to hear anything until next PC reboot, but my internet would suddenly lock out on me too! Really hurts me while playing online games. So I restart my PC, and during the reboot it would say something about .NET Broadcast Event unable to close. It only lasts for 2 seconds so I dont see it often, but it only comes up when my sound crashes. Here are my system specs. Power Supply - PT Power supply Model: PT-A450w ATXP4 Power Supply Unit Input: 115VAC 8A max 60 Hz 230VAC 4A max Output450w +12V 18A MAX. +5V 30A MAX. +3.3V 20A MAX. -5V 0.5A MAX. -12V 0.8A MAX. +5Vsb 2A MAX. Motherboard - Gigabyte 8S648FX (socket type? O.o) CPU - Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz RAM - 512 mB (cant remember the rest) Video Card - ATI Radeon 9250 AGP, 128mB Sound Card - Realtek AC97 Audio Hard Drive - Its 80gB, thats all i know D= OS - Windows XP Professional And I've installed the latest drivers. Help appreciated - i dont want to buy a new sound card and end up with the same problem. |

Hmm interesting. Do you currently have version 2.0 of the .NET Framework? Run Windows Update and see if you have it (click Custom instead of Express to access the Optional downloads and install).
Try installing these drivers for your on-board sound (these have been WHQL certified and were released four days ago by Realtek) and see if it alleviates the problem. |

It could be that too Doby, nice catch. .NET can be used in almost, well, anything. Incase the above doesn't work, take a look into updating your video card drivers following this link. Since ATI no longer supports these "legacy" chipsets, the latest stable version of Catalyst drivers for the Radeon 9250 is Catalyst v6.5 - follow the directions in the thread to acquire the v6.5 drivers.

Sorry for bumping a long dead thread, but it seems that i cant get it fixed within the software.
I've decided to do one last final thing- replace PC parts until the problem is fixed. But where do i start? New RAM? Motherboard? Sound card? I remember running a memtest and it was fine. Also i've tried 3 different graphics cards and i still have the same problem. My problems are:
So what parts should I be looking for? Any recommendations? Im not trying to upgrade, as im on a tight budget. However a sound card that would allow me to use both my speakers and headset at the same time would be nice. Any tips? Thanks again for all your support. |
