Mic suddenly stops working/sound card issue.
I got on my PC the other day and noticed that my mic wasn't working. It wasn't muted and I just figured that it was probably broken and I'd have to buy a new one, but then I plugged in a spare mic I had and it also did not work. I checked every setting possible, the mic is not muted, and the volume level is up. I can hear fine out of my headphone, although they are a little quiet compared to what they used to be.
One thing that is weird is that I can hear static feedback in my headphones when I touch the screen on my monitor. My USB headset works fine, but I just don't like it. I would like to have my set that plugs into the sound card working again, but I don't know what to do. I've updated drivers, because I couldn't roll back the drivers. I have a SB live card, but not sure what exactly because I'd have to open up my case to tell. Windows XP Home 768 RAM 1.8 GHZ |

There is a volume control for wave sound turns it up. All so to get the mic working go in to control panel and get in to the sound icon.. There you will find a option to change your mic options to get it going..
all so get an non USB headset.. usb headsets are for people that don’t have a good sound card.. but you have a sb live though it is no the newest card out there.. but it will process the sound much better then the usb witch i believe relies on your cpu to do the processing off the sound witch is crap basically.. so its buypassing the soundcard.. and making your pc work harder.. note you must turn off the onboard sound codec to get the soundcard to work right all so don’t be a noob buy plugging in the mic in to the onboard codec when your have the soundcard plugged in to the pc ..for the sound will only come out off one.. And not both.. and most likely it will be the sb if its in your pc.. all so update all your media player software and did I say drivers to.. don’t know I am not going to fine read what I have typed but I will say is… do it.. /\ this is prolly not going to make any sense if you read this lol.. /\

Nope, dosent make sense....jus kiddin :P
I think Sabiancym is already using the card, and not the onboard sound, and if thats the case, it mightnt hurt to disable the onboard sound completly. If you are unsure how to do that, you might want to take a look at what recording interface the computer is using (ie, the mic port on the onboard sound, or the mic port on the SB card) try: Start---control panel----sounds and audio devices----Audio (the tab at the top)----and make sure that the "sound recording" box is selected to the SB card. If that dosent work, i have another idea. PM me if i forget to check this thread out again. |

Thanks for the ideas, but it still isn't working.
I didn't really understand your entire post Spriggin, but I do have a non USB mic. I stated that I have two, and they both work on other PC's, but not on this one. I am only using the USB one because the non USB isn't working. |
