Windows media sounds crackly

Hey guys

I'm having some issues with all my my wma/wmv music files, as well as msn messenger sounds. When I play any sound of this format in most of my media player programs, they make a god-awful crackling noise. Regular mp3's, waves, and any other format will play flawlessly however.

I have a feeling that either my sound-card doesn't deal with wm* files, or I have cruddy codecs for playing wm*. Or so I thought, until I downloaded the newest codecs for WM from microsoft.com

Now heres the funny part: the WM files play perfectly in VLC media player, but I don't use VLC to play media, I use winamp. I just use VLC to play files that my computer can't otherwise open...

Anyone got any ideas?

It could be the sound battery has gone on your computer and needs replacing, I had the same problem with my laptop.

TheWaste Registered User Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 51 OS: Windows XP Professional 2002	Windows media sounds crackly Hey guys I'm having some issues with all my my wma/wmv music files, as well as msn messenger sounds. When I play any sound of this format in most of my media player programs, they make a god-awful crackling noise. Regular mp3's, waves, and any other format will play flawlessly however. I have a feeling that either my sound-card doesn't deal with wm* files, or I have cruddy codecs for playing wm*. Or so I thought, until I downloaded the newest codecs for WM from microsoft.com Now heres the funny part: the WM files play perfectly in VLC media player, but I don't use VLC to play media, I use winamp. I just use VLC to play files that my computer can't otherwise open... Anyone got any ideas? Thanks ~Luke
